I hope that you had a wonderful weekend!
I received this note from a new Facebook fan who recently emailed me her style question:
Hi Michelle,
I love wearing the classic white cotton shirt. I have several. They are staples in my wardrobe. But I feel like I keep wearing them the same old way and I am getting bored. I don’t want to give up on one of my favorite things to wear but I need to find some new ways to wear them beside with my boyfriend jeans. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Stacy
Stacy, I LOVE this question! A Great White Shirt is also one of my favorite basics in my wardrobe. In fact I did a style segment of this very same topic for Bay Area Drop In, the local television show where I was the featured Fashion Stylist. EVERY girl (and guy! Don’t leave gentlemen – There’s some tips here too for wearing your Great White!) should have a Great White Shirt because this classic style is a core basic that works well in the wardrobes of all personalities, whether you are a Casual dresser, Classic, or a livin’ on the edge Fashion Maverick.
Yes, this crisp white shirt pairs well with all kinds of jeans but don’t feel limited to just jeans. I find that I enjoy wearing it with my dressier or edgier pieces to make these items more wearable in various social situations and events. Toss on your favorite or borrow your man’s, and pair it with everything from trousers to ballgown skirts. From a sexy to subdued look…the Great White Shirt is always chic and in style.
Here are a few ways to wear your Great White Shirt to suit your personality:
- Throw on a cropped lace top over your Great White for a bold feminine look.
- Pair your Great White with a full leg trouser for a touch of elegance.
- Tuxedo or plain, a Great White goes with any color or print. Here it creates a feminine effortless look.
- Wear your Great White open, layered over a lingerie top and casual pants for a carefree casual weekend.
- A Great White paired with black leather leggings for a casual yet edgy outfit. (A man’s tuxedo shirt would be a perfect pairing here too!)
- Sharon Stone knew what she was doing when she paired her sleek satin skirt with her Great White for a sexy and sophisticated look.
Want to know how to work in your Great White with this season’s trends? Here’s how:
- Pair your Great White with a maxi skirt in allover white lace and pay tribute to your feminine side.
- Throw on a crop top in this season’s hot color “Yellow” over your Great White for a fun layered look.
- Wear “Head to Toe” white with your Great White Shirt. And please don’t worry about matching your whites!
- A skirt worn over a modern gingham pant addresses two trends that are hot this season. A Great White completes this edgier look.
- This one is for you Stacy: Sometimes all we need is a third piece to make our Great White Shirt and jeans outfit feel fresh and new. This suede jacket adorned with this season’s “fringe” trend should do the trick!
BONUS TIP: The possibilities of how to wear your Great White Shirt are endless.
Here’s how you can rock three different skirts with the same Great White. How do you rock yours?
Just for the guys. A Great White Shirt is always classic under a suit jacket or paired with jeans. Here are a few looks to get more mileage out of your classic whites.
- Wear a Great White with interesting details and pair it up with your khakis for a cool casual look that your lady will appreciate.
- Don your Great White with some colorful shorts for summer and you’ve got a weekend look that will turn heads.
- Pair a bold colored pull-over sweater with your Great White Shirt and white jeans for a polished look that will get you noticed.
- “Head to Toe” white isn’t just reserved for the ladies. Show them you’ve got great style too and jump in on this summer trend.
- If you really want to make an impression, this look is the ultimate in showing you’ve got confidence in your style. Heads will turn. Enough said.
