Hey, there,
Did I offend you?Â
Before we dive into my favorites styles for this fall allow me to clear something up that I posted in a recent past newsletter, âThe 6 Top Trends To AVOIDâ
After I wrote the newsletter and received a comment from a reader in response to that newsletter, I realized that perhaps I wasnât as clear in my reasons for avoiding these 6 trends as I couldâve been.Â
Hereâs the comment from my reader:
Nice Michelle! And I love the pics. I have a stacked heel (I call them my Lady Gaga shoes) which youâve seen and I love them! Get compliments every time I wear them⌠Perhaps itâs the outfit that Iâm wearing it which makes them work somehow, not sure!
Keren
Hereâs my response:
Dear, Keren,
Thank you! It works because YOU are a Fashion Maverick my dear! I know that stacked heel you wear and it totally works!
As I stated⌔Unless youâre 20 something, or a Fashion Maverick Personality, many of these Fall trends probably wonât suit you.â Please notice how I didnât say âallâ wouldnât suit youâŚjust âmany probablyâ wonât suit you.  Most of my clients canât rock the Lady Gaga shoe like you nor are they a Fashion Maverick personality. YOU do this look well!
Most stacked shoes are fineâŚthe ultra one is pushing it for anyone who isnât on the cutting edge. I posted the 6 trends because many women are concerned that they have to follow ALL the trends to be âfashionable.â Not true which is why I stated that ââŚ.most probably wonât suit you.â
Thanks for bringing this up. I think I will address this more clearly in my next newsletter. I donât want women to think that they canât wear these, I just want them to know âthey donât have toâ to be considered fashionable.Â

So if any of you were taken aback by my listing 6 trends to avoid, please do take into consideration YOUR Personality. If you are a cutting edge Fashion Mav girl, then by all means jump in on the trends that suit you. For all my other girls, who think these trends are way too over the top for them to consider, donât feel you need to jump in on any of these. There are plenty this season to consider.
As always, stick with what works for YOUR Personality, and youâll always rock your authentic style!Â
So onto my favorite 5 picks for style trends this Fall, in no particular order:
- Military: From jackets, trenches and coats, to dresses, skirts and pants, the military look may be strong in Khaki and Olive, but it’s anything but drab. Brass buttons, epaulettes, leather and fur trims, are just a few of the interesting details youâll find garnishing these classic and updated looks. Style note: I suggest unless you work in the military that you donât go all out in head to toe combat colors and details. Mix it up with other solids (Burgundy, Saffron, etc.) and pretty fall florals, plus add some softer silhouettes (see âstatement sleevesâ below) for more modern and wearable looks.Â
- Statement sleeves: Summer showed us the sexiness of off the shoulder looks. Those will continue to be strong, but if you want to add a bit of romance, this Fall, sleeves will give you that. Look for Leg oâmutton, flounced, and bow-tied sleeves. Style note: Please be mindful of where the ruffles hit your body. If youâre a Triangle I suggest you look for a puffed or Leg oâmutton sleeve to extend your shoulder line and give balance to your hips. If youâre an Inverted Triangle, a bell, flounced or tie sleeve cuff will add width to your slim hips to balance your broad shoulders.Â
- Capes and capelets: Capes became popularized in the 16th century for their ability to conceal a sword. In these modern times I see the cape as a sign of power (think wonder woman!) and to create a dramatic look with your outfit. Style Note: Capes come in all shapes, styles, and lengths. Find one that flatters your Body-Type, not one that hides it. (That is soo 16th century!) If a long cape isnât your thing, opt for a shorter capelet.Â
- Pantsuits: The new power suit is cut slimmer, super stylish, and many are loaded with color and pattern. Itâs suitable for work and for a snazzy night out. Treat yourself to a fall floral, a geometric print, or a luxurious velvet – whatever suits your fancy. Style note: We havenât seen a printed pantsuit for decades so please donât resurrect one from the depths of your closet from decades ago.
- Jersey dresses:  From silk jerseys from DVF to cotton knit jerseys from Stella McCartney, the jersey dress is always a winner. Style note: If you want this look to last more than a season, I suggest you get a classic silhouette in a color that works with your PC (Personal Coloring), throw on a pair of boots and a cape or capelet and youâre good to go. For you more forward Fashion MavsâŚwell the edgier the better, right?
Now, itâs your turn. Iâd love to hear from you. Your insights and inspiration are appreciated so please share your stories in the comments below.
If you have a question also post it in the comment section below.  I check it daily. Since the topic is always about fashion or style no question that you ask will be âoff Topic.âÂ
That means as far as Iâm concerned, when you ask a question that is the topic. Everyone else whoâs reading it can follow up on my answer. There will be no questions that you ask that will be too far off topic because your question will be the current topic. So…ask away!
OhâŚand your email address is not ârequiredâ even though it says so. đ Donât even ask.
Blog me.
Love,
~Michelle
