Summer of Love

If you ever thought you wanted to try the Boho look but were afraid it wasn’t your Personality, toss aside those fears; this year is the year to rock the Summer Of Love” looks, and I’m here to show you how!

2017 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Summer Of Love and the celebrations are in abundance all yearlong. Now is the time to embrace the 60’s counterculture. Whether you were around for the original Summer Of Love back in 1967, or not, I can help you find your “Inner Hippie,” and rock the look while you spread the love!

Find your Inner Hippie and spread the Love

If this sounds a bit radical to you…well, it can be. But I say, break out of your shell and have a little fun this year.

Here’s 6 ways that you can be a part of this iconic time and still honor your authentic self. I mean, really, who doesn’t have love to spread? You’re a Human Be-In, right?

The Summer of Love Look

  1. Rock the Ruffles: It’s not surprising that ruffles are playing a major role in fashion this year. Ruffles and other details that honor the feminine were big back in the 60’s. So get in touch with your feminine side, and ruffle up your style a bit.
  2. “Touches” of Tie-Dye: Unless you’re a big fan of Tie-Dye, don’t over do it or you’re sure to feel dated. Keep this look elevated i.e. “Rich Hippie” not “Homeless Hippie.”
  3. Leather & Lace: Stevie Nicks said it best: “Give to me your leather, Take from me my lace.” Mix your lace with a little leather for that sweet, edgy look.
  4. Playful Prints: Add a pop of color to your outfit; whether flowers, paisley, patchwork, Black/white optic or psychedelic-inspired designs.
  5. Loose-fitting clothing: Sheer and other lightweight fabrics in billowy silhouettes – Think Blouson tops, tunics and caftans, maxi skirts and dresses for the girls. Nehru shirts and jackets (a la “The Beatles” ), colorful pants or bell-bottom jeans for the guys. Note: If you’re pulling a vintage piece to wear, be sure to make it current by pairing it with a style from today.
  6. Accessories:  Peace signs, flower crowns, head scarves, embroidery, colorful ethnic and beaded jewelry, big belt buckles, fringed bags, floppy hats, platforms, and huarache sandals. Again, keep the look elevated by not going overboard or you’ll look too “costumey” and not current.

Depending upon your Personality, take bits and pieces of any of these 6 style tips and mix it up with your current wardrobe.

Lastly, if embracing your “Inner Hippie” still feels like you’re trying to be someone other than you are, don’t sweat it, there’s nothing more inviting than spreading a little love with a big smile and a two-fingered peace sign. 🙂
